Another Amazing New Website: Gmail Tips

Controlling Notifications:

I like for my phone to audibly alert me when I have received a new email but I only want that notification for certain emails. I control this using a gmail filter. If the email is from certain senders I have the filter automatically mark it as "Read" This leaves the email in the inbox but prevents my phone from triggering the new email alert.

Inbox Clutter:

There are certain emails that I want to continue receiving but I don't want to be bothered with. I achieve this using a filter. When an email from one of these senders arrives the email is automatically marked as read and archived. I still have the email if I need it but I never had to see it. Filters like this are good for newsletters and website coupons. If I need to find a coupon I can go into my archive "All Mail" and find the most recent email but I don't have the hassle of handling their emails normally.

Online Shopping:

I use two gmail labels to keep my online shopping purchases organized. One is "Not Received" and the other is "Unbilled." When I make a new purchase I apply both of these labels to the order confirmation emails. I remove the "Not Received" label when the item arrives and I remove the "Unbilled" label when I verify the amount on my credit card bill. Clicking on my "Not Received" label allows me to quickly see all the items I am still waiting on.
